                                                                        POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

POSITION TITLE:         Substitute Teacher

 

                                    FLSA Exempt Professional

 

QUALIFICATIONS:      Valid Washington Teaching Certificate or ability to obtain a valid certificate to serve in the role of a substitute teacher. 

 

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Daily services for the current school year, on-call.  Long term substitute assingments available trough out the school year.

 

Rate of Pay:                     $250.00 per full day for fully certified substitutes

                                        $200.00 per full day for Emergency Certified substitutes. The district may consider applications from Emergency Substitute Certificate holders to serve as teaching substitutes. Minimum qualifications include experience and interest in working with children; BA/BS Degree in any field; familiarity and/or experience working in an educational setting. 

                                     

 

Benefits:                           Substitues earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for each 40 hours worked as per the Washington Paid Sick Leave program and are eligible to apply sick leave time during qualifying long term assignments beyond 10 consecutive days in a subsitute assignment. A maximum of 40 hours will be carried forward each calendar year. 

                            

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.

  2. Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.

  3. Adhere to classroom and school plans as provided by absent teacher and/or school leaders.
  4. Assignment may require remote, distance, and on-site face-to-face instruction. 
  5. Depending upon learning models at any point in time: May use Learning Management Systems (LMS)  and remote/virtual educational delivery models including use of live broadcast resources such as ZOOM, and recorded resources (synchronous and asynchronous delivery).  
  6. Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.

  7. Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.

  8. Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times. 

  9. Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures.  Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.

  10. Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

  11. Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances.  Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.

  12. Report for duty 30 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:      

 

  1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations as outlined and provided in Substitute Handbook and other District provided guidance.

  2. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  3. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  4. Leave detailed notes for teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
  5. Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or the Substitute Office

     

 REQUIREMENTS
1.    Hold a valid Washington State teaching certificate, or ability to obtain a certificate.
2.  Have a current WSP/FBI fingerprint background check or willingess to have a fingerprint background check.

3.  The district may consider applications from Emergency Substitute Certificate holders to serve as teaching substitutes. Minimum qualifications include experience and interest in working with children; BA/BS Degree in any field preferred; familiarity and/or experience working in an educational setting.
