Position: Director of Food Services

 

Reports to: Director of Finance & Operations; Superintendent

 

Salary Range: Negotiable; Determined by the Board of Directors


Classification: Classified Non-Union position; FLSA exempt.


Position Description: Direct the overall functions pertaining to the Food Services program including but not limited to: hiring and training of staff; preparing food menus to meet state and federal requirements and district standards; order food to meet menu requirement; maintain equipment; compile and report student information for mandated reporting; ensure accurate reporting of all revenues. Advance the District's educational mission by supporting current child nutrition programs and recommending new programs for the health and nutrition of all students. 

 

Typical Work:

• Interview and recommend selection of food service workers; act upon leave requests; conduct performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action as needed.
• Maintain training records to ensure qualifications and certification are current; ensure compliance with RCW, WAC and state and District policies; and required equipment and safety training.
• Secure substitute to cover shifts in absence of regular workers within parameters of the negotiated contract; instruct substitutes on equipment safety and schedules
• Train new employees and substitutes as needs.
• Supervise general department maintenance program with specific attention to safety inspections.
• Schedule in-service training, staff development programs and first-aid classes if needed.
• Manage the collection and maintenance of student and family information records and verify eligibility for state and federal food service program requirements.
• Prepare accurate reports in a timely manner such as but not limited to the District participation in state and federal programs.

• Prepare and plan daily menus and nutritional analysis to meet state and federal requirements.
• Plan menus to meet age appropriate food and nutrition interests within standards and budget.
• Work collaboratively with building administrators to design and deliver food service programs to meet needs of students.
• Prepare food and supply orders to meet menu and program needs and budget guidelines.
• Manage the daily receipt of revenues and deposits following district guidelines.
• Maintain complete and accurate records for the operation of the food services department and submit reports as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
• College level training or degree in Food, Nutrition, Dietics, preferred.
• Must have a minimum of 4 years experience in food service industry.
• Minimum of 3 years successful supervision.
• Must be willing to maintain and protect confidential reports and personnel records.
• Willing to take directions, follow policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate ability to organize and oversee total food service program.
• Possess general knowledge of WAC and RCW and Federal guidelines pertaining to school food services.
• Food Handler permit required.
• Ability to work with a team, make good decisions in a timely manner; plan, organize and prioritize responsibilities, learn new computer programs, supervise staff.
• Demonstrate high level of skills in interpersonal relationships, leadership, organizational, and written and verbal communication.
• Ability to keep abreast of changes and updates in food services field.
• Ability to work positively with students, staff and community.
• Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
• Must be trust worthy with confidential information.
• Ability to prioritize and handle variety of tasks simultaneously.
• Self-directed, success oriented individual.
• Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Expected to attend work as scheduled and model appropriate professional behavior.

Terms of Employment: 260 contract days per year, holidays, vacation
8 hours/day
