Position Title:         Summer Learning Counselor

Report To:               Summer Program Director/ Site Coordinators

Classification:         WEA Union Represented Position, FLSA Exempt

Compensation:        WEA Salary Schedule, Per Diem

                               This is a temporary summer program position and paid by timecard submitted by the 10th of each                                         month.  

  

The 2026 Wahluke Summer School Model  is to provide in-person instruction to Kinder-8th grade students in reading, mathematics and enrichment, while fostering academic growth, building student confidence, and creating engaging learning experiences that prepare students for success in the upcoming school year. 

The Summer School Counselor will support students at both summer school sites while being housed at one primary building. The counselor will provide social-emotional support, short-term counseling services, crisis response, and coordination of student supports to ensure students are ready to engage and succeed in the summer learning environment.

Class Schedule:          June 22 - July 28, 2026

Hours of Operation:    7:30 am - 3:30 pm Monday-Thursday; Counselor shift will be for 7.25 hours/day

*Home visits outside of the regular schedule for additional hours.

 

 

The Counselor Will:

  1. Work with the district’s Migrant Education Federal Programs Director, site coordinators at both schools, and school staff to identify and support student social-emotional and behavioral goals in alignment with the district’s local plan and State Service Delivery Plan.
  2. Provide short-term, solution-focused counseling and social-emotional support to students experiencing academic, behavioral, or personal barriers.
  3. Support students across both summer school buildings while maintaining consistent communication and collaboration with staff at each site.
  4. Provide crisis intervention and safety support when needed.
  5. Coordinate services with school staff and community resources to address barriers impacting student attendance, engagement, and success.
  6. Support positive behavior systems and contribute to a safe, welcoming summer learning environment.

Physical Requirements: This position typically requires: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move can carry objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
