Position:  Secondary Migrant Student Advocate; Grades 9-12

 

Reports to:  High School Principals; Director of Multicultural & Multilingual Programs

 

Classification:  Classified Non Union; FLSA Non-Exempt

 

Salary Range:  Salary as reflected in the Classified Non-Supervisory Non-Represented Salary Schedule, dependent upon related experience and education.

 

Terms of Employment:  220-day contract, including 11 paid holidays; 8 hours per day.

 

Benefits:  Eligible for employer contribution toward medical, dental, and vision benefits; Washington State Retirement System; sick leave, bereavement leave, and jury duty.

 

Basic Function:  Provide advocacy, case management, and coordinated academic and social-emotional support to migrant students in grades 9-12 and their families. The Secondary Migrant Student Advocate builds trusting relationships, identifies barriers to attendance, engagement, credit attainment, grade-level promotion, and graduation, and connects students with school and community resources. The position works as part of a school-based team and collaborates closely with the Migrant High School Graduation Advisor, school counselors, administrators, teachers, the Migrant Recruiter, and other staff to help students remain enrolled, make timely progress, and transition successfully to graduation, postsecondary education, training, or employment.

Physical Requirements:

This position typically requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium work: ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move and carry objects. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noise.
